sandbags... [14 May 2008|10:31am]

[ mood | creative ]

So I was just surfing the web thinking I want to buy myself a pair of sandbags, and thinking shipping 20 pounds of sand now that could get pricey.... so I'm thinking why not be crafty and make my own!!!

Has anyone done this? If so what kind of fabric did you use? did you put the sane in anything inside the fabric so it didnt leak, what about the handle? anyone possibly have a nice set of directions to follow??

Thanks!!!

i recently broke my ankle, more recently graduated from a hard cast to a walking boot, and even more recently decided to stop sitting around feeling sorry for myself. i am thinking that this would be a good time to work on arm balances & inversions, but i don't know of any sequences that focus solely on arms/upper body without somehow involving the ankle. i would have to keep my boot on when practicing, and i can't at this point do things like sun salutations or anything standing or involving flexibility/weightbearing of the joint, really. can someone point me in the direction of a podcast/website/whatever that might be helpful? thanks.

Robert Anton Wilson [13 May 2008|02:00am]

[fayanora]
The Multnomah County Library has a few Robert Anton Wilson books in its collection, but not "Wilhelm Reich In Hell." So I decided to inter-library loan it. Guess how many libraries have that book? Give up? Well, there are nine. Nine! IN THE ENTIRE FREAKING COUNTRY. Only nine libraries in all the USA have a copy of "Wilhelm Reich In Hell"!

Some day, when I am rich and famous (crosses fingers in hope), I am going to start a trust fund like Carnegie did, only instead of the money going to build libraries, it will go toward getting books into libraries that ought to be in libraries. Books that a lot of people would be interested in, but which the people who are interested in them are scattered around the country. Like occult books, and controversial titles.

But in the meantime, I urge anyone who can afford it to buy a copy of the book - and any other book of a kind that is not often gotten by libraries - and donate it to your local library.

bike lust [12 May 2008|10:36am]

Summer has attacked here, and I have been getting back on the bike(s). Slowly. Of course I have more time at work to peruse the internets, and to obsess about bikes I don't have. Excessive, superfluous, semi-useless, expensive, and awesome.

I used to obsess only about the kona bikehotrod. Lots of homemade choppers just don't appeal to me. Then I ran into Hannan choppers.

Mother's Day Yoga Class [11 May 2008|06:07pm]

yoga

[speakinrhymes]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

Class this morning... our teacher started class asking us to dedicate today's practice to either our mother, or a mother figure and throughout the practice continued the mediation having us recall memories from our childhood growing up and remembering our mother or mother figure at different points in her life as well.

It was a very difficult class for many people, but probably one of the most rewarding yoga classes I have ever had.

[Announcement] New Community Moderator [10 May 2008|02:00pm]

meditators

[isquiesque]
Greetings to the community.

[info]ngakmafaery has decided to move on and has asked that I take over the responsibility of moderating the meditation community. I'm not here to stifle the flow of information or ideas, merely to keep things spam-free, but it does mean that I have to approve posts by all but the oldest tried-and-true members.

Please note that I have a day job where I can't access LiveJournal, and every so often my job requires that I go into the woods for several days at a time, so it may be a few hours or even a few days before your post goes public. My apologies in advance for, um, having commitments and responsibilities outside of LiveJournal (*wink*) ... but seeing as how we get maybe two posts a month I'm thinking this won't be a huge issue. If it turns out to be, we can always appoint another moderator for those times when I'm in the wilderness.

It's been quiet here for awhile. Comment below and tell us how your meditation practice is going!

Namaste,
- Jacqueline

Discordians, Dysnomians, Erisians, and others of much ilk...

Get up! (Get on up!)

KallistiCon 2008 is coming - June 20-22!

Every year this millennium, we've gotten together in the Bay Area in California. We're not just rehashing gags from the Principia - we're moving forward, practicing chaos in the world.

For the last seven years, we've eaten and drank together, we've made friends with strangers in traffic, we've had rituals and blessings, we've been weird in public, and we've been human with each other. We’ve found the freaks who thought they were the only ones, and taught them - and ourselves - what tribe is supposed to mean.

Some of you will say: "But Discordians are supposed to be disorganized."

Didn't you know that's just a put-on?

Some of you will say we’re doing it wrong, and only you know the right way to follow Eris.

That's OK. Just quit talking about it and start doing it.

Some will no doubt repeat the tired cliche: "We Discordians tend to stick apart."

Of course we do, but sticking apart is more fun when we do it together.

Throw out your old memes. Greg and Kerry are gone, Bob Wilson is gone, Camden Benares and the other old-timers are gone. Let's honor and respect them. Let's learn from their lives and their teachings. But let's stop trying to be them.

The Principia is your grandma's Discordia. Being an inside joke on the net is your daddy's. What's yours? And who are you doing it with?
